2006 GMC Community Activities

December – GMC donated GBP300 to Peter Akaboah who actively cooperates with Passage – charity that helps homeless and vulnerable people in London by organising night shelters, serving food etc. You can visit the Passage website by clicking here.
September – Claudette Campbell is taking part in the “Brazilian Gold Rush” charity cycle from Ouro Preto to Rio de Janeiro to raise money for The NDCS (National Deaf Children’s Society). GMC contributed the registration fees for this event.
August – GMC donated GBP400 to the Deutsche Bank Enduro Team competing in a triathlon style relay from London to Paris. The challenge consisted of a relay run from London to Dover, a relay swim from Dover to Calais and then a relay bike leg to Paris. The Deutsche Bank team raised over GBP10,000 for SPARKS (Sport Aiding Medical Research for Kids).
kilimanjaro2 July – Simon Percival, a GMC employee, set off on a trek to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, 5,892 meters above sea level, in aid of Cancer Research UK. By participating in this trek, Simon raised GBP3,000 for Cancer Research UK. As a charity, Cancer Research relies overwhelmingly on donations from the public to continue their life-saving research into the prevention, treatment and cure of all forms of cancer.
July – GMC donated 40%, or GBP220, from a World Cup Football Sweepstake prize pool to Unicef which will be used to provide support, healthcare and education to under-privileged children.
July – GMC donated GBP200 to Jason Hale who is taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge in aid of SPARKS. The aim is to climb the three highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – within 24 hours. SPARKS funds research into the wide range of conditions that can affect new born babies.
June – Two Global Markets Consultants employees participated in the City of London Race for Life on 4 June 2006 in aid of Cancer Research UK: Ulrike Koeppl ran in the women’s 5K race through the City of London and Tanmay Saksena volunteered as a race marshal. They raised GBP200 for Cancer Reasearch UK.
June – Prem Goyal attended a charity dinner to increase awareness and raise money for Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a rare and chronic progressive disease that is a major cause of renal and liver related sickness and mortality in children. June – GMC donated USD500 to the American Red Cross to help people affected by the Indonesian Earthquake. The earthquake, on Indonesia’s main island of Java and measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, killed more than 3,500 people.
May – One of our employees, Ulrike Koeppl, participated in the Sail The Island Adventure in support of the Parkinson’s Disease Society on 7 May 2006. Ulrike participated as a crew member on a 40 ft yacht in an 8 hour sailing race circumnavigating the 60 mile coast of the Isle of Wight. GMC sponsored the event participation. Ulrike raised GBP720 for The Parkinson’s Disease Society to fund research into the cause, cure, prevention and treatment of Parkinson’s in order to improve the lives of people affected by the disease. sailboat
May – The Chafford Lions Under 8’s Football Team held their end of year presentation evening. GMC sponsored the awards and Prem Goyal, GMC representative, attended the ceremony.
February – GMC helped British Red Cross fundraising efforts by contributing GBP200 to a Deutsche Bank organised raffle. The British Red Cross assist in many areas in the UK including emergency response, training first aiders and first aid at events. They also respond to disasters and conflicts around the world distributing essential supplies to those affected.
February – GMC donated GBP100 to Paul Marshall who is running the London Marathon this year in aid of the Mental Health Foundation.
