JUDGE, THIRD SECTOR AWARDS

I was invited to join the judging panel for the 2016 and 2017 Third Sector Awards. I’ve judged over 50 entries and provided in-depth business analysis for categories including Charity Partnership of the Year, Big Impact Award, Celebrity Champion Award and Enterprise Award. In addition my company, Global Markets Consultants, has sponsored the Third Sector Awards for three consecutive years from 2015-17, providing £30,000 contribution and pro-bono support and business acumen for about 15 winning charities.

I’ve been on the judging panel for the 2016 and 2017 Charity Awards, alongside distinguished figures from the charity sector. I’ve helped judge eight categories including Children & Youth and International Aid and Development and have also been the lead judge of the Education and Training and Healthcare and Medical Research categories. I’ve been invited and look forward to rejoining the judging panel for the 2018 Charity Awards.

CHAMPION, THREE FAITHS FORUM (3FF)

I join fellow 3FF champions, including, HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan, Trevor Phillips OBE, Rt. Hon Dominic Grieve QC MP and others, to further cross-cultural understanding and interfaith initiatives. As a Champion, I have delivered two inspirational speeches for Parliamentors, a UN award-winning leadership programme run by 3FF for university students, in the House of Commons and House of Lords. I also hosted a celebration event in the City of London to recognise the charity’s volunteers. I encourage participants in the programme to go out of their comfort zone, become global citizens and learn more about different cultures so they can construct diverse teams and build competitive enterprises.

I was one of 12 founder members of the college’s Humanities Advisory Board. I share my expertise with the college’s Humanities Department to help them achieve their goals. In particular, I act as a bridge between the college and industry and advise how the college can help their students become more employable and ready for the workplace.

TRUSTEE, THE CONNECTION AT ST MARTIN-IN-THE-FIELDS (HOMELESS CHARITY)

I shared my business skills and experience in cooperation with fellow trustees to help London’s busiest homeless charity’s ongoing work supporting homeless and vulnerable people in London with specialist support services.

My job as Patron is to promote the work of the academy in training young talent and share my business acumen with them so they can compete in British, European and International competitions. Carragher Academy boasts 30 British, European and World Champions since 2012 and has had many other notable successes. Led by Sarah and Jessica Carragher, the Academy continues to be very successful in competitions across the world.

PATRON, SAFFRON WALDEN COMMUNITY FOOTBALL CLUB (SWCFC) – FORMERLY SPARTAK 78

As Patron I act as an ambassador for the local club in Essex, formerly known as Spartak 78, and support their events and football tournaments. Spartak recently merged to become Saffron Walden Community Football Club – a community club – providing opportunities to about 1,000 footballers, girls and boys, and 250 coaches to play develop their skills, play and compete each year, and forming community ties with over 5,000 people.

TRUSTEE, ATTLEE FOUNDATION

I was a trustee for the Attlee Foundation for three years where I shared my skills and experiences with the board to help the organisation’s work to benefit people disadvantaged by poverty or lack of opportunity in Tower Hamlets and the neighbouring areas. I raised £25,000 for the Attlee Foundation in 2010.

I was a Trustee for Time and Talents from 2010 to 2013, supporting their governance and provision of opportunities and spaces for local groups and community projects for older people. Since 2014, I have taken up the role of Patron and helped sponsor and support London Marathon runners, quiz and bingo nights, Christmas festivals, bowling competitions, sailing trips and diverse community events.

I’m a participant in UpRising’s core leadership and mentoring programme, giving guidance, networks, confidence and advice to young people from disadvantaged communities. I have mentored around 15 young people in one to one meetings and contributed on employability panels.

PATRON, CHILDREN’S UNIVERSITY AT ASHDOWN PRIMARY SCHOOL

I support and offer advice on the school’s Children’s University scheme, a unique concept where children aged 7-14 are given opportunities to participate in accredited learning activities to foster a life-long love for learning. I also provide a learning destination for children involved in the scheme by introducing them to the financial sector in the City of London.

PATRON, SOUTHWARK HEADTEACHERS’ EXECUTIVE

I provided support and advice to the Executive as they moved towards greater levels of self-sufficiency. I helped schools tackle bullying to ensure all young people are included, especially physically, mentally challenged and LGBT children. I’ve given educational and inspirational speeches to pupils including disabled, special needs, permanently excluded and NEET students, helping them connect with the City of London and increase their employability.

As Patron I support the charity’s public activities which include year-long programmes of recitals, solo performances and concerts, and promote its standing in the community. In 2014, they had over 60 international musicians and four international soloists join them at their Spring Concert.

I helped manage the organisation and volunteered every Christmas Day for five consecutive years to put on an annual Christmas Dinner Party for around 300 isolated elderly and disabled people in Southwark.

I support the charity’s work addressing the needs of deprived children and young people in impoverished communities in London and in developing countries such as Jamaica. I have sponsored quiz nights and the charity’s fundraising activities. I also provide resources to help those young people achieve academic excellence so they can have fulfilling futures.

I sit as a Magistrate for about 30 half-days every year. My duties as a magistrate include sitting in the Adult Court to:

  • deal with summary offences
  • decide if the charged should be remanded in custody or granted bail
  • hear criminal cases
    • listen to evidence
    • decide if someone is guilty
    • decide on punishments (fines, unpaid community work or prison)
  • refer cases to the Crown Court where a heavier sentence is necessary or the charges are very serious.
