Creating opportunities for Portsoken’s youth
In July earlier this year, Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School (the City’s only primary school) led a group of around 25 children on a day trip to Lille, France. From what I am told, all the pupils had a superb time touring the City and putting their French speaking skills to use, a language they had begun learning in the last school term.
After productive discussions with the Headteacher Timothy Wilson, I agreed to sponsor 10 places on this extra-curricular trip, specifically for talented and eager children whose families could not afford the trip fee.
It is vital that young people, from a very early age, are instilled with the value of life-long learning and appreciating every available opportunity to broaden their outlook and develop their abilities. This is why I was incredibly proud to finance this amazing cultural opportunity for 10 children who would otherwise not have been given the chance to go.
I am confident that this will be just the first step in a constructive relationship between John Cass Primary School and myself as I am more than happy to sponsor similar such opportunities in the future. Together, we can ensure Portsoken’s children and children from neighboring areas receive equal access to amazing opportunities.
