Prem Goyal OBE JP is an Alderman of the City of London, an elected position. He has lived and worked in the City for 20 years.
Growing up in India, Prem had very modest beginnings, attending state schools and spending his summers in a house with no bathroom. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) before winning a scholarship for a master’s in Engineering at Clarkson University, New York. Prem then obtained an MBA from UCLA, graduating with the Dean’s Outstanding Student Award, and later continued his executive development at Chicago Booth.
Having been a Professional Engineer in the US, Prem went on to work for investment banks including Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank in New York, Tokyo, Zurich and London for 20 years. Working at Deutsche Bank for 15 years with MDs, including Management Board Members, Prem specialised in derivatives trading, risk management, finance and technology.
In parallel, Prem launched Global Markets Consultants (GMC) in 2002 and has been its CEO since then. Until 2013, GMC provided management consulting services to investment banks, including UBS and HSBC. Since then, GMC focuses on corporate social responsibility and governance and risk management. Prem also manages its US and UK investments.
Prem is passionate about his civic, charitable and philanthropic interests. In recognition of his entrepreneurial and charitable contributions, Prem was awarded an OBE in 2013.
